489Movement hosts Saturday and Holiday school learning programme aimed at grade 4 – 12 learners. The Saturday and Holiday schools were developed to uplift children and youth morale and advance academic skills.
The purpose is to foster a community of learners interested in Mathematics and Sciences (Physics, Life, Natural & Geography) and promote reading, writing, and innovation.
In 2014 with the help of the community and young people, the movement embarked on a cleaning campaign, targeting illegal dumping sites to promote a clean and conducive environment. The cleaning campaign encouraged the adoption of the dumping site. As a result, trees, flowers, and lawns were planted on the site. To date, the site has been a centre of attraction, and people in the community use it for different purposes.
The Environmental Desk will, in 2023, partner with a non-governmental organization to support and sustain a vegetable and fruit garden. The purpose of this partnership is to assist and guide the NGO on matters related to planting and maintaining a garden that will supply food to the community.
